After 13 years of silence, one of the oldest Christian metal bands sound off again. 'Live at Bobfest...' is the first CD proof of their return. Now we get to hear what the band sound like in a live environment. And I think they have given us a good, solid statement. All of the classic albums are represented, and all the hits are present. The sound of the recording is also good, but the talking between some of the songs is a bit unnecessary, especially since it's all done in Swedish. As a long time fan of Leviticus I enjoy this effort quite a bit. I also think this can be a good tool to getting to know the bands music. "Flames Of Fire", "Messiah" and "The Suffering Servants" are my favorites.

"Knights of Heaven" saw Leviticus move even further into the melodic, commercial style of metal that was hinted at on "Setting Fire to the Earth". Frankly, for them, it was good move. This is without a doubt their most solid album. Everything was improved about the band, from the production, to the vocals, to the songwriting. Much of this is compliments of the Elefante brothers (Guardian, X-Sinner, Petra), who have a knack for writing and producing solid, radio-ready rock. I suppose for those who prefered the band's earlier attempts at straight forward heavy metal, this album is a bit of a let down. To be quit frank, however, I found early albums like "I Shall Conquer" to be ultra-cheesy and just downright bad. That is not to say that this CD doesn't contain some elements of cheese. After all, it was the 80's! Check out the song "Feel So Good" and it's "OOOEE, OOEEE" chorus. However, cheese in small doses is actually enjoyable as it is here. Bjorn Stigsson is forever the most underrated guitarist ever, as is proven here by some of his outstanding leads. Most of the lead work here isn't overly flashy, but the man knows how to write a lead that really compliments the songs. Songs like "Messiah" are complimented nicely by the melodic lead work. Standout cuts are "Born Again", "Strong Love", "Over The Hills", "Messiah" and "Isn't It Love."

This turned out to be the hardest Leviticus album to come by on CD. And it's no wonder, as it is really their best effort to date. I guess the new vocalist, Terry H., is who makes the difference. He's a much better singer than Håkan (and later on, Peo). The production is also much better than on their previous albums. And it isn't as polished as was to be the case with their next offering. If you want to get into what this band is all about, I suggest you try your hardest to get a hold of 'Setting Fire To The Earth'. Happy hunting!

As the case is with Björn Stigsson's solo-album, the date of this Pure Metal release states 1989. But the album was originally released in 1987. I have no idea why Pure Metal put 1989 on those albums.

Back in the beginning of the 80's, this was actually a welcome treasure. I thought Leviticus was very cool. These guys, together with Jerusalem, have to be the first Christian hardrock bands I discovered. My brother bought the Swedish version of this album, and I was hooked. Nowadays though, I can no longer see the charm in this album. The sound is awful, and the vocals sound so strained I almost can't endure with it. I keep this mostly for it's affection value. This re-release by M8 also contains 3 of the 4 songs off Leviticus' first EP. These were songs I had not previously heard, but I was not missing out on anything. Wonder why M8 never put on the title song from that EP? The reissue is said to be limited to 1000 copies.

White Wizzard is one of the many bands that are dedicated in the resurrecting the sound of the glory days of heavy metal, but also one that greatly succeeds in doing that. The band was forged in the fires of 2007 by bassist Jon Leon, who was sick and tired of all these modern bands and wanted to play heavy metal the way it was played in the eighties: melodic, up-tempo and straightforward and this exactly what you can expect from ‘High Speed GTO’.

The band digs deep in the NWHOBHM for inspiration with Iron Maiden as the grand price. But also the metals Judas Priest, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Diamond Head, Tank, Saxon and (a bit of dust from) Raven are to be found in the harvest. The melodic guitars are supported by heavy, hard-rocking riffs, an anvil-solid rhythm section and a great vocalist and hearing the songs I can only confirm the following words from the bassist: “For White Wizzard it’s as if the nineties never happened!” and that, my friends, is a tasteful statement. So if you can’t get enough of traditional heavy metal of the old school, then there is a big chance that you find a new friend in White Wizzard.

Actually all the songs on ‘High Speed GTO’ are taken from the title less mini from 2008, recorded in the original line-up. The new line-up is currently working on the bands first long-player, which will see the light of day and the end of the year. But until then we can fully enjoy the seven songs on this mini. One more thing; take the time to watch the video of the title track…your belly will ache from your laughter!

here's something special going on here. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it's ...talent? MANIAC clearly had the X-factor to bring them above the average mid-80's melodic Metal produced in Sweden. After a sloppy piano intro going on a bit too long for comfort we're presented with very competent, driving melodic HM, boosted with a more than competent chorus. "Beauty Queen" grows with every listening and while "Take It Awake" isn't quite as special it's still a heavy enough companion to the A-side hit. No, I can't go on praising this 7" too much. It would only diminish the possibilities of myself scoring a copy in the future.

If you are looking for a band that is in the same vein as groups like Lion, Hurricane, Emergency (Boys Will Be Boys with Manzano), Lillian Axe, Know Illusion, Picasso Trigger, Warrant's best moments, Syre, Brass Kitten and Heavens Edge, then this band will fit in your collection perfectly! The vocalist sounds very similar to Kal Swan (Lion) or Manzano (Emergency). The musicianship is also very good, with all the hooks that you need to get your fix. At times this release is a bit similar to Doug Aldrich's guitar playing.
By indie standards, Reality Playground gets a 10/10. It has a solid production, full booklet with lyrics and photos of all band members -- all you would get from a major label release. Some of the more impressive tracks are "Bad Man", "Inside Of Me", "Really Hits Home", "Ready Or Not", "Once In A Lifetime" and "Hearts On The Line"

It would be ignorant to just refer to this album as "pure epic Heavy Metal". STONEFIELD obviously took a lot of influences from the 70's, the epic end of Dio-era RAINBOW in particular, but the end result sound more like a slowed down BLIND GUARDIAN than your average 70's retro act. In my ears they did this style better than most Scandinavian or Japanese bands in the same vein, at least on this their second release, which surpasses their debut MLP from the year before in excellence. Dark, symphonic tracks like "End Of Time" and "Spirits" elevates the album well above the average of the time and the majestic Power Metal of "The Liar" alone is a strong enough reason to make "Light Of Lies" a good investment for the more centerfield Metal fan. I figure QUEENSRÿCHE- as well as ADRAMELCH- and OMEGA-fans will be rolling on the floor to this album.

There's something distinctively profound and mysterious about the lyrics and graphics of STONEFIELD, but I'm having difficulties to pinpoint the exact qualities that give me these occult vibes. It's certainly not their insignia alone (a combined trident and inverted cross?!), but also lines like:

"They take away all your gold, And sell you instead their bad lies. To ease our problems they try, Happy-go-lucky love songs, The culture is dying for you, To blame is the preacher untrue..."(The Liar)

"Look to the heavens, And see the light of your life, Look into darkness, And feel the might of this time..."(Light Of Lies)

...and so on to even more odd and peculiar issues. Aw heck, I'm probably reading too much into it, but add a little imagination and it gives the album some extra esoteric edge and that definitely heightens the listening experience, at least for me. (If I close my eyes to the silly comical drawing of the lineup from the inner sleeve, that is.) The main thing that knocks them off a possible, personal fave-list of 1990 would be the occasional flaws in Ebenhard's singing. He makes a high and strong vocal performance, perhaps not always in perfect tune, but very typical of this genre. The Teutonic accent shines through a bit too brightly on a few occasions though, and as you all know for a fact that's a very ugly language.

Manowar - Hell On Earth II - Fire And Blood 2DVD (2002)

Video: Hell On Earth II - Fire And Blood 2 DVD

This "rocumentary" features part 2 of the series "Hell on Earth". With almost
two hours of running time "Hell on Earth Part 2" documents the 1998 "Hell on
Stage" European Tour with almost 30 shows. Mixed in 5.1 surround sound it
features for the first time ever full length versions of some of MANOWAR's
classic songs like "Bridge Of Death", "Blood Of The Kings", "Hatred", "Guyana
(Cult Of The Damned)", and the epic "Dark Avenger" - featuring the bone
chilling narration of Orson Welles, "The Gods Made Heavy Metal" and the
glorious epic "Master Of The Wind" as well as many others.

The second DVD "Blood In Brazil" contains one of the band's most legendary
performances as the Special Guests at the 1998 "Philips Monsters Of Rock" in
Sao Paulo, Brazil. For the first time a complete concert performance has been
captured in the band's career. A visual testament to MANOWAR's kingdom of steel
in Brazil. Filmed with more than twelve cameras in front of more than 30.000 of
South America's wildest and most devoted metal fans and also mixed in 5.1
audio, this spectacular performance was highlight of the 1998 "Philips Monsters
Of Rock".

Naturally bonus footage is included in both DVDs: alternate song versions,
interviews with journalists and crew members give viewers and incredible
insight into the magic of the music and the fans of MANOWAR. As a special bonus
the songs "Warriors Of The World United" and "House Of Death" are included as
live versions, captured at the "Ringfest" performance on August 17, 2002 in
Cologne, Germany.

A brand new Ken Kelly artwork plus great 3D computer menu animation as well as
the patented DVDconnector* make this groundbreaking piece of live history a

"Fire And Blood" is a double DVD Set (2 discs) and undisputedly shows that the
word Heavy Metal belongs only to one band. That band is MANOWAR!

VH1's Heavy: The Story of Metal

Note: all links rapidshare
This is a really good documentary that suffers from the way Heavy Metal is defined and (re)interpreted. It does a good job of exploring the birth and pivotal moments of metal, such as the first No 1 album, rise of the power-ballad, PMRC hearings, etc. However, it loses a lot of it's objectivity as it tracks metal's push into mainstream music. While the bands under focus are worthy metal ambassadors, the bands that barely get more than a mention unjustly lose their place in the evolution of metal (and Megadeth deserves more than a one-sentence mention!!!).

Episode 1: Welcome To My Nightmare

Welcome To My Nightmare traces metal's roots in the late-60's in the bombed-out industrial town of Birmingham England to the spectacular rise of Kiss and "glam metal" in the early 70's.

Episode 2: British Steel

British Steel examines metal's growing pains during the 70's when both high-brow rock critics and punk rock threatened its very existence. By decade's end, bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Def Leppard gave birth to what became known as "The New Wave of British Heavy Metal."

Looks That Kill sees metal thrive in, of all places, sunny California. Quiet Riot, Motley Crue - it's the world of metal on the sunset strip. And, keeping everyone's Jacuzzi-soaked ego in check, a little film called Spinal Tap emerges.

Killswitch Engage are a polarizing force in modern metal. On one hand, they were instrumental in the rise of the new wave of American heavy metal, the forefathers of the entirety of modern mainstream metal. On the other hand, they are also one of the foundations of metalcore, the oft-hated subgenre of repetitive screaming and breakdowns, with little talent for songwriting. Where the truth about Killswitch rests is somewhere in the middle. They are not trendsetters anymore, nor do they fit the label of metalcore that has spawned a thousand faceless bands. What Killswitch Engage is, now, is a band trying to figure out what their role is supposed to be.

The days of Killswitch being the innovators of the metal world are gone. Their first two albums were revolutionary, bringing the screaming/singing formula to the mainstream and defining the sound of a genre. When they delivered The End Of Heartache, introducing new singer Howard Jones, the band laid the cornerstone for all that is modern mainstream metal. The album was heavier than anything getting airplay, was technical in the right ways, and featured an outstanding vocal performance from the best singer/screamer in the genre. The album, by virtue of it's sheer weight, the epic scope of the melody, and the tight songwriting of the band, became the Bible by which all that followed was judged.

The band themselves found the album impossible to follow, releasing the uninspired As Daylight Dies, repeating the formula with little of the inspiration. Killswitch still sounded like themselves, but had the energy of a cover band, none of the songs coming across with the same air of aggression. Now, Killswitch is back to take their second stab at recapturing the magic. Their second self-titled record is an improvement over As Daylight Dies, but cannot approach their watershed release.

As a cymbal counts off into the introduction of "Never Again", the first riff highlights the problem that the band has. Nothing that they do now, after inspiring so many followers, sounds as fresh as they did when they broke out. The classic Killswitch formula is present, the muscular riffs and pounding rhythms driving the songs under Howard's multi-faceted vocal approach. Nothing is wrong with this approach, but it is too familiar, down to the very details of the guitar tone. This is all stuff that we've heard before.

The band does little to help themselves overcome this apathy, loading the first half of the album with the faster, quirkier songs. "Starting Over" builds the verses on an Iron Maiden styled gallop, turning back to the band's modern approach in the chorus, starting and stopping to break up the proceedings for no reason other than to be different. "Reckoning" is the first single, a short burst of energy that contains all the band's elements, but fails to put them together. "The Forgotten" tries to be different, building from the dramatic pulse of the intro, falling right back into the cliche.

As the record makes its turn to the second half, the band finds their stride. "The Return" is softer, utilizing clean guitars and a wash of fuzz to underscore the sweeping melody Howard spins, as well as the classic guitar harmony that sits back in the mix. "A Light In A Darkened World" has the strongest hook on the album, a tasty slice of razor-edged pop infiltrating the assault. "Take Me Away" has a Malmsteen-esque shredding riff before turning into a hard rock chorus that feels inspired. "I Would Do Anything" is the heaviest song on the album, but remains melodic with another sweeping chorus. "Save Me" and "Lost" are standard-issue Killswitch tracks, but have solid melodies that elevate the songs beyond pastiche.

Killswitch Engage is a short record, the songs coming and going before their can wear out their welcome, a good idea for a band offering more of the same. There is nothing new to be found on the album, the band sticking to their tried and true formula. Unlike their last album, this effort finds them engaged in the songwriting once again, turning out half of a record that could compete with their earlier highlights. Unfortunately, that amounts to twenty minutes of good music, and after three years, that's not enough. A band with the talent to make a great record cannot throw fill their albums with fluff and maintain their status.

Killswitch Engage is a return to form, and a step up, but it isn't quite enough.

What we get with this CD is a style that sits between symphonic power metal and folk power metal, and it never crosses over fully into just one of these styles. Basically, it's lightly symphonic, and somewhat folky. For comparisons, think of a band that's caught in the middle of symphonic power metal bands like Wildpath, Auspex, Minstrelix, Arya, Kerion, early Nightwish, Fading Starlight, early Dark Moor and Forgotten Tales, and folk power metal bands like Dalriada, Kalevala, Mena Brinno, Asynja, Midnattsol and especially Almora.

Power metal fans can rest assured that as far as the amount of speed, this CD will easily satisfy. Dominik Geneto is a great guitarist too, providing consistent, upbeat and catchy rhythms, with enough guitar solos to highlight some of the songs. What makes the band different however, is that there is a flute present on every song (which is performed by Daniel Bosshard). In fact, this is what will determine whether or not you will enjoy this CD. For me, I like the flute most of the time, but there are instances where it feels like the flute is present just for the sake of being present, and it doesn't fit as well with some of the songs as it does with the better songs.

Understated stalwarts Novembers Doom return for a seventh lesson in classy execution of doom/death metal, and by the sounds of things are still feeling empowered.
With an awesome production showcasing their powerful song-writing, Paul Kuhr is again pushed high in the mix to showcase his usually thought-provoking lyrics, strong vocal range and versatility.
They’ve never quite reached the heights of some of their contemporaries, but their style is certainly nothing to sniff at, and their latest release is another example of the quality in their ranks, and will only cement their status as one of the leading lights in their field.

Divine Heresy have only been around for a few years, but have already had their share of drama. The band was formed by guitarist Dino Cazares (Fear Factory), and their debut Bleed The Fifth was released in 2007. After the acrimonious departure of vocalist Tommy “Vext” Cummings, the band returns with a new singer for Bringer Of Plagues.
Bringer Of Plagues kicks off with the appropriate named “Facebreaker,” an intense dose of extremity that starts with flailing blast beats and a primal scream before getting into more of a groove. “The Battle Of J. Casey” has galloping thrash riffs and more of a melodic feel. A symphonic interlude gives way to more brutality with the title track, and the rest of the CD continues in the same vein, with a combination of intensity and melody.

Divine Heresy has a lot of metalcore and deathcore elements in their sound, but also thrash, modern metal and death metal. Cazares has a distinctive guitar sound, and his riff writing is top-notch. Drummer Tim Yeung is prominently featured on Bringer Of Plagues, with double bass and blast beats high in the mix.

Travis Neal of the Swedish band The Bereaved is Divine Heresy’s new vocalist. He alternates angry yells and impassioned screams with melodic singing. The hardcore style screams are effective, delivered with emotion and conviction. It fits right in with the band’s sound. His melodic singing isn’t as strong, but he does a credible job on the ballad “Darkness Embedded,” which is almost all melodic singing.

Bringer Of Plagues is pretty similar to their debut in both style and quality. Divine Heresy didn’t lose a step by bringing in Neal, and his harsh vocals are actually a bit stronger than his predecessor’s.

This year sees Dark Tranquillity’s twentieth birthday and the Swedes would like to celebrate this with you, their fans! Even though the present has been wrapped very neatly into a vinyl replica packaging, these influential death metallers are no santa clauses just yet. Because you are of course the one who has the pull out your wallet…

Nevertheless, ‘Yesterworlds’ is certainly worth your while. It contains the ‘Trail Of Life Decayed’ demo (1991) and the ‘A Moonclad Reflection’ EP (1992), which are two classic releases which paved the way towards DT’s debut record ‘Skydancer’ (1993). True fans will already have these recordings in their possession, because they were also included on ‘Exposures - In Retrospect And Denial’ (2004). So especially for them some recordings were added straight from the recording sessions for the ‘The Gallery’ promo. The raw and pure versions of ‘Punish My Heaven’, ‘The Gallery’ (which sounds strange with the female vocals performed by Mikael!) and the only true ‘new’ material ‘Away, Delight, Away’ are actually pretty fun to listen and compare.

All in all ‘Yesterworlds’ has become a pretty cool document, especially packaging-wise. But please consider carefully before acquiring this one, because the amount of new/unheard material could turn out to be quite disappointing.

Aging rockers will no doubt remember the NWOBHM band Fist. They released two well-received albums in the early eighties: “Turn The Hell On” and “Back With A Vengeance”. A very unexpected, unheralded comeback from these underground heroes, "The Dust of Years" sees them paying more atention to doom metal this time, with the singer Ian Arkley singing in a more downtuned, death-like manner. There are also some furious death metal breaks thrown in, so is there any thrash? Well, just a bit, and it's of the heavy doomy variety, with only "In Ruins" jumping on the more dynamic up-tempo wagon. As a whole this effort is not a direct continuation of their old output, and it would be of bigger interest to fans of doom: think Dark Millennium, Morgion, My Dying Bride, etc.

"Inside Out" begins with the first 3 songs raising the flag of the Bay-Area sky high, in an energetic and headbanging tempo. Towards the middle the music becomes more complex and technical, but loses the biting edge, and the songs are longer, including one not very convincing ballad "Winter Tears". Fortunately the guys return to the more winning formula later on, and despite the presence of another not very appropriate heavy/power metal number ("Circles") and another heavy semi-ballad ("Beneath Closed Eyes"), this album delivers the goods almost as well as the debut.

This band play cool speedy thrash, with some occasional, proto-death elements ("Siedem Bram Piekiel"). The music is fast-paced and intense, with gruff, semi-black metal vocals (they are hardly audible, so to some they might sound otherwise...).

I guess that people who have spent some time reading about Scandinavian mythology already know what "Thyrfing" means, and I guess that they will already know this band. For the ones who don’t know shit about the meaning of the word as well as the band, here I am to end your misery! Just kidding... So, "Thyrfing" is a sword from the Scandinavian mythology, a cursed blade that appears in several tales and myths.

THYRFING (the band), is a Swedish Black Metal act that has been around since 1995. Maybe people that don’t know the band may know THYRFING’s members since Ryden is the ex singer of NAGLFAR, Kristensson is the frontman of RUTTHNA and the band used to have the services of Vintras from FUNERAL MIST. Anyway, the band has just released its sixth studio album and while taking a look at various sites I realized that there are various reactions, both good and bad.

People describe THYRFING’s music as Viking Metal, but to tell you the truth I hate this term. The word "Viking" has to do mostly with the lyrical themes or the atmosphere, so it is something like an additional term next to the main genre. What this band actually plays is Black Metal with many epic (or Viking) elements. Of course the band has been influenced by the high and mighty BATHORY, something that is visible (or may I say audible) throughout the whole album, as well as acts like FALKENBACH and MOONSORROW.

There are many great riffs in "Hels Vite", but the band has tried to create an album full of huge songs that end up sounding tiring. Just think that these 7 songs last for more than 50 minutes! Anyway, the band’s new singer is really great, something that most of THYRFING’s fans didn’t expect and his vocal performance in this album is amazing. This guy is really a beast! What we also have here is a really heavy and concrete guitar sound and an overall nice and solid production that helps the riffing sound exactly as it deserves.

Trying to end up and gather my thoughts on this album, I can say that it is a pretty decent release, though there were times I got really tired. Some say it is their best album ever, some say it really sucks and others that they have managed to play ’true’ Viking Metal for the first time in their career. What I say is that it is a nice album with some nice riffs, a great atmosphere and a great dose of boredom at some parts. The decision is yours...

Despite its minor flaws and a few “Sort-of” filler tracks, Conclusion of an Age is a solid thrash/melo-death album that you should definitely give a listen. What I love most about this band is that, although at their very core they are a thrash band, they never try to conform to one certain genre, which is what makes their sound so difficult to describe. Sylosis is truly original metal, and if they filter out the filler tracks on future albums and make the acoustic sections more varied (or hell, just leave them out altogether), then they are posed and ready to conquer the world. A band this diverse in their sound should be able to appeal to most metal fans without sacrificing their amazing sound, which is the key to greatness. Highly recommended!

Formed by two former members of Hate Eternal and a drummer I’ve never heard of, the band take much of their sound from their former masters’ crushing heaviness, but throw in plenty of dissonant weirdness courtesy of Gorguts as well, forming a freakish crossbreed that is more reminiscent of those Australian trailblazers Portal than anyone. Yet whilst Portal are all about the unsettling atmosphere, Gigan take a step back and allow you to be buffeted by the technicality of the music alone. Imagine a Cryptopsy that hasn’t gone to complete shit, one that was willing to go off into space rather than into Deathcore land, and you’ll start to appreciate what Gigan have managed to achieve here. I’ve seen this classified as Psychedelic Death Metal, and listening to the likes of the eight-minute Hiding Behind The House Of Mirrors I can see why, distinctly spacey for half the running before turning into an intense and sharp-edged trip that takes Meshuggah’s weirdest moments and nastily stabs you in the face with them. Of course, songs like Still Image Symphomy manage to be suitably freak-y as well, technical and Proggy without losing that all-important Death Metal edge.

The majority of the ‘songs’ here are three-to-four minute bursts of leftfield brutality that will all sound the same until you’ve listened more than five times or so, but will leave a deranged smile on your face each and every time. It goes without saying that both Eric Herseman (guitars, bass, ‘abstract sounds’) and Randy Piro (guitars, vocals, ‘abstract sounds’) are pretty incredible to listen to, their crazy riffs not just taking the ‘spazzcore’ route but genuinely sounding like something from an alternate universe, but the aforementioned previously-unknown drummer Danny Ryan is simply amazing, shunted to the background by the production but still an important part of proceedings and more than proof enough that Gigan are a genuinely awesome band.

As if you still needed persuasion as to that fact, then finale piece Untitled should convince, being twenty minutes of nightmarish echoes, drum solos, and psychedelic Noise that will leave you a gibbering wreck. It does the work of three Hawkwind albums, and whilst it’s not the kind of song that many will listen to on repeat, it is an excellent way to finish the album, providing the finishing blow after the severe beating of all the intense technicality, the likes of Undead Auditory Emanations burning a hole through your ears with their sheer Tech-Death quality. This really stands out from the crowd... anyone with an interest in the technical side of Death Metal should put Gigan at the top of their purchase list immediately.

With historical themes being so common in so many metal bands lyrics, stemming all the way back from the likes of Mercyful Fate's Curse Of The Pharaohs all the way up to Hail Of Bullet's recent concept album looking at the WW II Eastern Front, it's surprising that it's taken so long for a band like Ex Deo to show up. The band are lyrically concerned entirely with the great and gory history of the Roman Empire, and despite hailing from Canada they manage to sound surprisingly authentic and non-gimmicky. The band have received a considerable push with their debut Romulus, having signed to Nuclear Blast records and having roped in such high profile guests as fellow history buffs Nile's Karl Sanders and Behemoth frontman Nergal. There's a very good reason for this, as the band are none other than the members of leading Canadian death metallers Kataklysm. What is very surprising about Romulus, however, is that it's a considerably stronger effort than the band's last proper effort in their day jobs. The constant chugging of the mediocre Prevail has been replaced by a far more stately, epic sound, Blackguard keyboardist Jonathan Leduc supplying the band with symphonic lines that add a rather nice extra touch of melody. Maurizio Iacono (apparently the driving force behind Ex Deo) turns in a suitably imperial vocal performance, genuinely sounding like he's leading his legions into battle. His commanding roar has enough gravitas that I can ignore the occasionally wobbly lyrics. Although it's not as cliché-ridden as say, Alestorm, the lyrics can feel a little vague. Although it'd be too much of me to demand a history lesson from the band, it would be nice to have a bit more than a few obligatory references to Rome and Caesar. It's a shame, as when Iacono does refer to specific historical events, he seems to know his stuff, especially on The Final War (Battle Of Actium). The album mostly seems to deal with the exploits of Julius Caesar and his nephew Augustus, taking in such historical battles as the Siege Of Alesia and the crushing of Mark Antony at Actium. Being a death metal album, of course, much of it is incomprehensible lyrically, despite Iacono being one of the more understandable vocalists in his field.
Romulus will probably be skipped over as a footnote in the Katalysm history, Ex Deo viewed as merely an experiment. And that'd be a great shame as it sounds more alive than anything the band have done in a while in their guises as Katalysm. Let's hope Romulus gets the respect it deserves, rather than simply being banished to history.

Cauldron is the remains of the highly acclaimed and absolutely brilliant Goat Horn who took underground doomy heavy metal a giant step forward. The only member who remains from the old days is vocalist and bassist Jason Decay who has steered this band in a little heavier and upbeat direction. Chained to the Nite consists of a formula that very often proves successful when perfectly balanced. Thrashier NWOBHM-influenced heavy metal with faint hints of catchy power metal makes this simple yet varied record a constant visitor in the stereo, as the trio provides rock solid songwriting, strong riffs, melodic and soulful leads, thin yet somewhat aggressive vocal work as well as a powerful presence that never shows signs of going anywhere else. In other words, your attention will not fade away unless you’ve been on an experimental/alternative/atmospheric/progressive metal trip lately, and this just becomes too simple and too “in here” rather than “out there” for you!

Unlike the now stagnating thrash-revival that have bored us out of our minds for the last couple of years, new quality heavy metal bands, both retro and modern has been popping up on a frequent basis. Along with Icarus Witch, Slough Feg, Wolf and Grand Magus, Cauldron manages to capture some of the magic of the early days and transform it into something of their own. The guitar-riffs are choppy, staccato and always catchy when layered over lively galloping bass and drum-patterns. Some of the thrashier riffs like the one on the album highlight Conjure the Mass could’ve almost been pulled straight out of Rust in Peace, and Jason Decay’s nasty vocals also brings back the feeling of the somewhat unfinished and dirty vocalists that roamed the genre back in the day but still managed to be perfect for their particular band even though they weren’t the most gifted of performers. On The Leaven / Fermenting Enchantress, they include some of the doom-influences that probably has been hanging on since the Goat Horn-days, and this song, with its simple yet creative axeman-ship stands as one of my personal favorites, and due to the track’s length, I get a slight Phantom of the Opera feel. Not necessarily because of the similarities, but rather the feel, the structure and the almost constant shifts in rhythm and shape. The power-anthem double bass-driven Dream Die Young is somewhat reminiscent of Deris-era Helloween with its energetic full-speed riffing and the relentless attitude that backs up every song on Chained to the Night.

There are really no down-points about this album, but if there were to be something, the vocals may come off as a little lackluster at times. However, living in the age of absolute perfection, I find this like nothing but a breath of fresh air as it brings back retro vibes and timeless emotions that shouldn’t be forgotten, but seems to drown in the sea of various core-bands that will never have the same impact.

Ok lets get back in business focusing on an inspired mix of NWOBHM and Doom Metal and in the case of Hour Of 13 from North Carolina, USA the whole thing gets even and even more interesting. It may have taken almost a year for the guys to finish that record and probably it was a hard decision for Mr Phill Swanson (also on Upwards Of Endtime, Seamount, Earthlord) to pass his dark voice from Vestal Claret (R.I.P.) to Hour Of 13 but thanks to the mystical guitar melodies and the hammering rhythm wall of Chad Davis it happened. Yes it is the co-operation of those two that gave birth to Hour Of 13 a band that presents (or represents?) a mixture of NWOBHM and Doom Metal WITHOUT the goal to sound retro and out of date!

Yes they are setting different goals for example to explore those dark and mystical melodies that are creeping somewhere between hate and sorrow enforced by an apocalyptic and occult touch that ends to be really attractive! You should try and bring all this stuff in mind taking as a fact that it is presented through a clear and HEAVY sound. They seem to play their music outside the trip of “who is going to sound more old fashioned and retro?” and yes they manage to make the listener dive even deeper into their music. Retro may be attractive as well but when it becomes a trend we should probably let someone else (probably Lee and his friends?) to grab it and sell it around. Back on topic I really enjoyed Phill’s vocals in here they sound much more different than in Upwards Of Endtime: even more straight, clean and melodic and for those that are not satsfited with some good vocals and some mystical guitar melodies ok I wrote it before: Chad hammers his bass and drums, creating this rhythm section you are still searching in this type of music.

This album is actually a tribute to all of our beloved obscure and mystical NWOBHM and Doom bands. Witchfinder General, Angelwitch, Ritual (UK) etc. shapes the NWOBHM part of the band and if you ask me about the Doom part I would mention of course the 70s Black Sabbath plus the most beautiful moments of The Purple Album by The Obsessed, some Count Raven from the debut album and of course some Pentagram. But it is better to stop asking question and turn the volume louder in order to hear some fucking METAL. If you have read it so far and you are STILL getting prepared for the usual hippie stuff, turn the fucking page and do not spend your money on Hour Of 13. they do not need them after all. They have sold their souls to Satan and he is going to give em all the money they ask for.

Formed as a side-project of members from Fear Factory, Napalm Death and Faith No More, Brujeria is the kind of band that is a bit spoilt if you’re in on the joke. Ostensibly, this is the daily playlist for a gang of Satan-worshipping Mexican drug barons, songs about killing blonde-haired Americans, molesting dead children, and, erm, crossing the border the deal of the day, and from a casual look at the cover and lyrics it’s hard not to blame the places that banned the album. Yet when you spend time with the album, it’s equally hard to see quite how it fooled so many. The intro skit to the album, Pura De Venta, is a drug deal gone wrong, some foolish güero questioning the purity of the product and getting a machete through the gut for his trouble, the dumb cabron. Leyes Narcos continues, opening lyrics as follows: ‘Pendejos! No se juega con las leyes de los narcos-satanicos’ (roughly translated: ‘Shitheads! Do not mess with the rules of Satanic drug-runners!’) and if you’re drunk and have the translated lyrics in front of you, then Matando Güeros is an absolute blast.

If you’re not and you don’t, it becomes distinctly less fun, and really I fully advise keeping this album for that situation alone. Then you can revel in the likes of the title track (‘killing white boys – long live the race!’) and Seis Seis Seis’ speedy grindcore (‘meanwhile I eat the brains of a virgin white boy/my father Satan is giving me kisses’) and Cruza La Frontera (‘don’t pay the coyotes, they are fucking thieves/they leave you lost, the border patrol fucks you – Satan cares more’) and Grenudos Locos (‘play this record if you have balls/radio doesn’t give a shit, their music sucks dick’) amongst others. Yet if you don’t have the lyrics, the primitive Death/Grind here is still rather good, even instrumental track Chinga Tu Madre worth listening to. The playing is sloppy and all over the place, drummer Grenudo/Raymond Herrera barely recognisable from the difference here to his usual technical precision, and guitarists Dino Cazares and Billy Gould (Asesino and Guero Sin Fe respectively) far from their typical sounds. This album features two bassists, Hongo/Shane Embury and Fantasma/Pat Hoed, and that really contributes to the album’s bottom-end sound, overwhelmingly murky and dark.

As a debut Matando Güeros is great, one of those fun little albums that the majority of Metalheads probably haven’t heard of. There’s been rumours of a new album from Brujeria for a while (the line-up now including Carcass' Jeff Walker) so what better time to check the band’s past out? If you have a sense of humour and live, breath and eat Death Metal, then Brujeria should be well-known to you.

Trying to describe Thy Catafalque music verbally is a futile task, I completely realize that. You have to experience it with your own skin, ears and some sixth sense to become a believer. I underwent two states while listening to Róka Hasa Rádió. When the music was post-black and crushingly heavy, my brain went into isolation, trying to ponder my own relationship with the world. Call it catharsis. Yet, many a times, when Tamas played a piano melody akin to a spring snow meltdown, with clarity rivaling some mountain brook (Molekuláris Gépezetek, Fehér Berek), I felt incredibly refreshed, calm and rested. The female voices, used quite often on Róka Hasa Rádió perpetuate this relaxation feeling. In fact, the album is a lot more vocalized than its predecessor, and it is an absolute shame I do not understand the lyrics. They must be a huge part of the message, providing the narrative to this music tapestry. Alas, those of us who do not speak or understand Hungarian, and I suspect those would be many, will be missing one dimension of Róka Hasa Rádió. Regrettable, this should not be an excuse for you not to delve into this completely the first chance you get.

There is room for improvement here and there – a bit more variety in the base Sludgy riffs would really take them into the stratosphere – but by and large Behold! The Monolith is an excellent album and promises great things to come from the band. If you find yourself wishing that Mastodon would go back to their old Sludgy ways then you should certainly check this band out.

Based on "Evilution", this is cool crossover/thrash; the tempo is energetic, without being very fast. Some tracks are pure intense speed/thrashers- "Mulling Over Anaesthesia", others are jolly crossover hymns- "Beria, Show Him the Door". Both the bass and guitar work are strong, giving the sound some technical decorations- "To Whom Can You Turn": a very cool diverse instrumental. The guys are specialists in catchy, infectious choruses- check out the nice "Kill Each Other". They later decided to change their name to Omnitron, with which came the change of style into not very convincing technical/progressive semi-thrash.

“Hassan..” is a J. PRIESTified kick in the groin. The kind of hard post-70’s metal sound that made albums like “Sin After Sin” and “Stained Class” to such groundbreaking classics.. “Angeles..” is a slower (but not softer) and more epic piece which for a few seconds in the middle of the song sound more like JUDAS PRIEST than JUDAS PRIEST ever did. Then it comes, this rabid monster of a song! “Tierra Prometida” is like Thor The Thundergod galloping over the South American midnight sky on his 8-legged horse Sleipner, both of them juiced up on Venezuela’s finest uncut cocaine! Fuckin’ raging METAL that took most of the US scene another 5 years to match. Side B has slightly less epic songs, but is none the less powerful, with 2 particular standouts: “Muerto en Vida”, a real crusher and definitely the fastest song on the album, and the almost doom “Resistencia”, another brilliant song well worthy of being a theme-song for the band. RESISTENCIA are even more ahead of their time than their legendary countrymen ARKANGEL. Unlike them they never border on Rock/R’n’R, but stay consistantly on the narrow Metal path and are also more dynamic in their songwriting. Despite my repeated reference to another old classic act I would still say they had a sound of their own. There’s an exotic, almost graceful vibe throughout the album, not only due to the fine vocal performance of César Alberto Somoza Torres. Must be their indian genes. The band produced 3 records between ’81-84.

Whoa. Now this something. The one and only release from swedish OMNITRON (previosuly known as The Krixhjälters) brings a really unique experience with its original sound, not similar to any other band known to me. From rapping to saxophone, from totally weird lyrics to catchy songs which will hook you, like "Triumph of What" or "How the Steel Was Tempered", you name it! Packed up with those typical Nordic "boyish" vocals (think latest works of Airdash and Stone) and original song writing, a real masterpiece, hehe! Highly recommended to all "non-conservative" metallers out there, but be aware: this is a "love it or hate it" album, so be sure to check out some samples before buying, or you can end up having an album you'll hate to even look at.

Based on "Let Draka", this is atmospheric thrash with touches of doom; a very dark, but also eclectic affair featuring some unusual time signatures and chaotic, but interesting song structures. Back in 1990 there was noone to play something similar to those guys. There are some melodic solos taken from classic heavy metal. With its avantgarde approach, this album reminds me of Celtic Frost's "Into The Pandemonium" (this one here sounds even better). The Italian band Glacial Fear (their early efforts) is another close soundalike, but Drakar don't use death metal elements in their music. This is a very interesting, unconventional listen.

Writing a MANIMALS review without mentioning THE MISFITS would be original, yes, but really foolish. It doesn't take many seconds of listening or watching the sleeve to figure out these guys all-time favorite band. The main thing that set them apart is of course that MANIMALS are more metallic (and no, that does NOT make them sound like DANZIG!), with longer songs and more advanced song structures Their gloomy Power/Speed has some punk elements, but not in a tacky hc/crossover way that would repel metalheads with a taste for catchy choruses and tasty "aaaah's" and "Wooh-hoo's". Then again THE MISFITS always were the one punk band that even the most narrow-minded metal-fan would get off on.

The epic title track is by far their greatest moment, and at first listenings it almost makes MANIMALS sound like a one-hit wonder. Now this is not due to the rest of the songs lacking in quality, but rather because "Blood Is The Harvest" is a bone-chillingly catchy hit of monstrous (pardon the pun) proportions! The very last chords and vocal harmonies will give goosebumps to the dead, no doubt. "White Zombie" is perhaps the weakest song on the album, but after that they're back in the saddle again. The howling Speed Metal of "Monster Nation" sound like MOTÖRHEAD on a particularly dark and stormy night, "Burn Witch Burn" combines fast chainsaw-riffing with a great singalong chorus, and the 'Wailing Wolf-Metal' of "Outside Your Window" does a significantly better job of projecting images of gloomy forests and white fangs gleaming in the moonlight than a dozen Norwegian Grim Black Metal-bands combined. The closing "Island Of Lost Souls" is based on the classic horror/sci-fi flix with the same name (aka "Island of Dr. Moreau"), from which the band also took it's name. Here they return to the instant hit-factor of the title-track, which thoroughly cements this very unique HORROR METAL album into your bones forever.

I guess it's the name of the band and album that raises such an interest. So, is it Doom then, you might ask? No, it isn't. But is it heavy? HELL YES it is! It may be older than most other records reviewed here, but I would say it still belongs since it was one of the rawest, hardest Heavy Rock records of it's time with a truly groundbreaking sound; a true "Roots Of Metal"-item! It may have been recorded in the 70's, but I'll be damned to life as a Depeche Mode-groupie if you'll find any Purp's/Zep's/Sab's vibes in their music. No, The H.O.D. lies closer to the raw, crushing sound of 1980 BRATS, SARCOFAGUS (1st), CRYSYS, early MOTÖRHEAD and the hardest of the earliest NWOBHM 7"s. There can't be a NWOBHM-fan alive who could resist the riffing, rhythms and lyrics of "There Ain't No Running Away". Total Heavy Metal balls! "They who'll creep at night" follows, and with it a fistful of great heavy guitars, but if I had to pick a favourite track it would have to be the sonic bulldozer "RnR Close To The End Of The World" - BRUTAL & primitive Hard Rock Metal agression at it's finest! I'd say just about every song is a high-quality, high-energy monster of rock and heavy enough to please the most demanding metalhead. If there's any particular 70's parts at all they can be traced to bands like THE STOOGES or MC5, but only on a few trax and never quite that punky. "Doom Power" is a deadringer for the THE STOOGES' "Raw Power", until the guitar break comes and suddenly they're in early MAIDEN-land. The only song which really stand out is the closing "The Light Of The Blind", which is more of a moody 60's/psyche thing, but still good. The bands strongest asset and the thing that gives them that extra brutal edge is the vocals of Andreas Rössner. Man, this guy is really pissed! I can't remember when I heard a singer sounding so angry on a Hard Rock record. Kinda what you'd expect when looking at the band picture on the front. Mean, shit-kicking bikers and juvile delinquents the lot of them!(?) With only 500 copies made almost a quarter of a century ago and frequently on the wanlists of both 70's and 80's HM/HR collectors, you have quite a task before you, trying to locate a copy. Let's hope for a respectful and well done re-issue real soon.

I could call this the greatest NWOBHM record from the USA, but why use that old monicker when bands all around the world did rather similar things at this period. With so many plain, boring "Heavy Rock" records coming out at this time, you wonder if it was CRYSYS who, in an act of Metallic vampirism, sucked all the energy out of about 50 of them and fuled their own amazing record with their life blood. At first it sounds so simple and you really can't understad why you like it so much. After the 3rd or 4th listening the album starts to unravel its mysteries. It's all about the riffs, you see. They're like distilled Metal - they've passed through the process of refinement so many times only the whitening bones of Hard Rock remains. They're damn near perfect. No godawful "blues rock"-inspired parts, no tacky sleaze, no radio-friendly "hit-song", even the semi-ballad "Touch Me" is a brilliant rock song in its own right. There is a slight 70's feel about certain parts of the axework, but not in the disguise of so called "musical experimentation" - just HARD rock guitars all the way through. I'd call them the RAMONES of Metal if wouldn't scare off so many potential listeners. Opening crusher "Blue Steel" is exceptionally effective despite the rather simple lead riff. The cavalry of the undead has arrived to rape, pillage and burn down your stereo! (imagine that...) The title-song is another really catchy HR-gem, but it's not until you reach the B-side that this album unleashes it's heaviest artillery. Like the super-heavy hard rock monster "Super Starz", the fast, energetic, doin'-the-sign-of-the-devil-invoking "Satans World", and the incredible "Black Out" - a song so beautiful in it's simplicity you don't know weather to shit or go blind. After more than 30 minutes of full frontal Hard Rock assault the opening-riff to "Hellsville" will stomp your lifeless corpse into the ground and you will love every second of it. The vocals of Stefan King are another major reason why "CRYSYS ROCKS!". They are powerful, hard hitting and honest and neither growls nor breaks into annoying falsetto. Them and the very live, in-your-face production is the magic that turnes killer riffing into gold. Anyone with a taste for the so-called "NWOBHM-sound" should own at least one copy.

The overall performance from the musicians offers nothing to complain about. Death SS are a tight, able band, who don’t overstretch their limits and make the most out of their abilities. I would never focus on technicality as a highlight of the album, but it isn’t supposed to be. Death SS don’t try to impress by means of virtuosity; their strength lies in the songwriting, and they know it and play accordingly. The one complaint a listener could possibly have would be with the vocals. Sylvester has a slightly nasal tone, which combined with the heavy Italian accent, may dissuade some listeners from giving it the attention it deserves. Which is a shame, as this album truly is an underrated, overlooked gem of European metal. The impact it has had on the bands of the area is undeniable, and it is without hesitation that I bestow the moniker of “classic” upon this album.

I always get slightly irritated when I see 90's and late 80's UK Metal releases listed as "nwobhm". The New Wave Of Brittish Heavy Metal was linked to specific events and a specific period in music history and does NOT apply to every two-bit rock band who released a single in the UK anytime between 1978 and eternity ...with the GRAND exception of this earthshattering EP! My - F*cking - God. Just look at it! Does it look the least like it could be one of the finest late 80's European privates? No. Does it even look like a Metal album?? Nope, I passed it by the 1st time I saw it, taking it for some sleazoid, post-punk, quasi-alternative, whatever-music. Thank god there's such a thing as portable record players. Putting down the needle on this true Metal Treasure for the first time sent me on a time- and space warp back to UK '81. "Undo The Chains" is like the best JAGUAR-song never written! If you thought "Axe Crazy" was a hit, wait until you hear this! It has the same catchyness as, ehr... hm... early Bad Religion maybe? The tempo then makes a radical change with "Take Me In Heat", a slow song constructed in the same manner as those early METALLICA-ballads, but sounding much older and more European. "Running Away" is this bloody leach of a song which has trasfixed itself on my mind since the day I first heard it. I've been humming along to that ultra-catchy chorus for weeks now and it still won't leave my mind alone. It's their most thorough and basic NWOBHM-song, with the same kind of groove as good ol' SOLDIER or EF BAND at their best. But better. Then when you'd expect them to run out of steam they totally knocks you out with the fantastic 6 minute epic "The End Is Nigh". The vocal melodies of the verse is Epic Power Metal in it's purest and most basic form; mesmerizing and raw at the same time, not too far away from the finest moments of Italian masters WYXMER. You get the impression SHOCKSPLIT were a young band at the time of recording, something that perhaps the rhythm section suffers for on a few occations, but they more than make up for it with their 2nd strongest asset (after their songs): their brillant vocalist Andy "Crate" Carter. He's got this perfect, clear, juvenile voice that was made for singing NWOBHM anthems. Where is he now? Where are any of them? SHOCKSPLIT seem to be yet another lost mystery band, but a really brilliant one for once. To me, unearthing gems like "Under Wraps" is what Heavy Metal Collecting is all about and I hereby order you to follow my example. The world could end any day now and then your life would have been uncomplete 'coz you never got to hear their music. Just don't say I never told you, ok...

SI really try to be weird, and in some ways they succed. Unfortunately it's not the kind unintentional, bugs-crawling-under-your-skin originality than one wish for when first seeing the album. The music is best described as progressive semi-Thrash from the same planet as WATCHTOWER or the 1st SIEGES EVEN LP, with the hit-potential of the 1st TESTAMENT album (the good one!) and frosted with the occational epic/Maidenesque riffing. ...But that's only after listening to it the 10th time. At 1st listening they're a total ruckus. The production is kind of hollow, and they really could have used another guitarist. That would have made this record into a real gem. Now is sounds more like a rough-mix of good things to come. It's hard to pic a favourite track since they all clock over 5 minutes and include so many different parts. On the excellent "Beaneath Your Lives" they can go from generic thrash to a powerful chorus to quirky off-beat weirdness in litte over 30 seconds and it sure takes some time to take it all in, but once you get it, it really is a great track. The opening riffs to "Rails" will put a smile on the face of any Power Metal fan, but the typical Thrash vocals might be a turnoff. Steve Lytle's backing vox saves the day though, adding a little extra flavour to the otherwise flat mix. Closing piece "Last of the Torment" is the most Classic Metal Song, with some really riveting riffs towards the end. All in all it's a mish-mash of melodic intricate riffing, mid-paced Thrash rhythms and start/stop song structures with one guitar short. Might be too much to stomach for the average Trad-metal fan, but if you (like me) have a weak spot for Strange Metal it's one of the essentials. I've seldom seen this EP offered and even if the music is an aquired taste, it still seem to be on quite a few wantlists, so be prepared to pay up should it ever cross your path.

I truly love this album. Guitars like a rusty sawblade to your vertebrae and riffing that grabs you by the neck and forces you to bang your fucking eyeballs out - in each and every of the 8 songs! The vocal style of Mick Pendergast is yet another thing I enjoy. His cool yet menacing voice comes off as a more restrained young James Hetfield and blends perfectly with their Rock-hard 'Riff Metal'. On powerful-on-the-gigahertz-scale METAL pieces like "Vicious Cycles", "12 a.m." and the incredible "The Jester" they almost come close to BROCAS HELM-godliness (in the Frisco-trio's most straightforward moments) while 200-titanium-rhinos-on-the-face-of-the-sun fakk-off-HEAVY monsters like "The Slasher" and "Princess Down 20" tangent PENTAGRAM-heaviness (well, more like DEVIL'S CHILDE actually). If there ever was an album meant to be played LOUD! it's this one. Productionwise "12 a.m." may be two inches away from a disaster, but the raw, distorted mixing doesn't ruin the album in a Satan's Host kind of way, instead it just makes it different, like a massive wall of sound crumbling down on you like manna from hell. It could be the best basement demo ever recorded, and once you've pulverized your speaker membranes with INNER SANCTUM, the distorted-to-bloody-hell guitars will sound totally natural and in place. Now where do I squeeze in the obvious BLITZKRIEG-comparison then? Hm..

In 1994 Walls Down Records from Luxembourg re-released this album on CD, with 4 bonus tracks consisting of a demo from '87. Unfortunately the whole affair is let down by the muffled sound on the LP recording. It sounds like it was mastered from a 2nd generation tape copy at best, and the raw energy of the original release is reduced to the sloppy mess it is rumoured to be. It's still a release worth picking up because of the demo which is almost in the same league as the album, especially the epic "The Haunting".

If you by any chance are in possession of this record and think I've overrated it, I dare you to give it a spin right now and then call me a liar in public. As a final footnote I'd like to point out the irony of how INNER SANCTUM most likely will be remembered as the band where DREAM THEATRE's Mike Portnoy began his skinwhipping career. Sheer tragedy since DREAM THEATRE are miles behind the guy said to have caught a glimpse of INNER SANCTUM's taillights fading beyond the horizon of steel. OFFICIAL!

Apparently the influence of the NWOBHM had made it to the other side of the globe by 1984, as this, their only release, the "Breaking Out" EP, sounds like it could have been recorded in a glum Nothern British town by mullet sporting denim clad spotty youth. A few of the tracks have a slightly more Hard Rock feel in places, and the sound is derivative, but i like this one and think that you might do too.

A Piece of trivia : the bands unusual name is the guitarists surname spelled backwards. The Hard Rock four piece released their only record, the "Forever Young" six song Mini LP on the Voice label in 1985. Despite the quality of the playing & songwriting the record sold poorly at the time, forcing the band to give up the ghost shortly after it's release. Connisseurs of 1980's Hard Rock have reappraised the record since then and it has become a much sought after item, see what you reckon.
